YASE!

The Young Ambassadors' Singing Entertainers (YASE) camp was a definite highlight of Tyce's summer--between that, Trek, and EFY in June he's had some amazing experiences. YASE is a a week-long musical dance theatre camp. The website says: You will have the opportunity to interact with other performers from around the country while you participate in group classes, auditions, rehearsals, and performance–enhancement workshops during your week. Other activities include an outdoor barbecue, a fireside given by the BYU Young Ambassadors, a musical theatre performance, the Entertainers’ Showcase, and Friday’s Final Concert.

The 2011 Young Ambassadors’ show, Harmony: The Music of Life, celebrates American musical expressions with some classics by well–known composers such as George and Ira Gershwin, Benny Goodman, and Rogers and Hammerstein. The show celebrates the harmony of the music of life.

He made some awesome friends who love doing what he loves. He copied this cute quote from the YASE group onto his facebook page:

"Yeah, well, I've got a dream too. But it's about singing and dancing and making people happy. That's the kind of dream that gets better the more people you share it with. And well, I've found a whole bunch of friends who have the same dream. And it kind of makes us like a family."  --Kermit The Frog

On his way to registration.

Making his bed in the dorms, Felt Hall of Heritage Halls. He didn't know his roommate but quickly made friends.

See that blanket? His special friend Lauren made that for him.

The kids practiced long and hard every day. Tyce and Miranda.

And they had a lot of fun. Jeffrey, Annie, Tyce, and Tessa.
Tyce's Friday-night performance was on Bryce's birthday--and seeing the show was the one thing Bryce wanted to do on his special day. (Besides eat at our beloved Bombay House.) There were solos and small groups. Tyce was in "Got So Far to Go" from Hairspray and "Stand by Me". He also sang in the chorus of "Casey at the Bat". There were two all-cast numbers, "Lullaby" by Billy Joel and "We Believe," an original song based on the 13th Article of Faith.

The first number was an all-cast a cappella performance of Billy Joel's song "Lullaby." It was gorgeous.
Singing and dancing in "Stand by Me".

The "Stand by Me" group.
He was in the chorus for the very cute number "Casey at the Bat".

Dancing to "Got So Far to Go" from Hairspray--he said his dance partner Molly was a pretty amazing dancer.

What I loved most is that he was having a blast!

It was a challenging but very fun number.

He says that even at home he feels like doing the routine all day long!

The final song was an all-cast performance of "We Believe." It was inspiring and beautiful.

We got to see the kids after the performance, and they were all bouncing off the walls with adrenaline and the rush of a job well done. They got to turn around and do it half an hour later for the next group--I would have loved to have seen the program again!

Apparently the kids stayed up almost all night long talking about their weeks, pledging their undying friendship, and eating junk food. Thank goodness for energetic counselors who can keep up with those kids.

I am so glad Tyce had the opportunity to go to YASE. It seemed like a truly awesome experience.
