Gearing Up for Girls Camp

I was called as an assistant camp director! You know what the best word in that sentence was? Assistant.

We had a meeting yesterday and camp is going to be the bomb. It's great to work with Rachel and Stephanie again. First we have to get through the stress of the fundraising dinner next week and after that it'll be planning the fun stuff. We're going to Clear Creek Ranch in southern Utah. We're sleeping in cabins! Hello. I am going to bring my mini-fridge and TV. Just kidding. (Just a blow dryer.)

I'm super excited to share this experience with Mary and 35 of her closest friends. Our ward has a big group of young women and I look forward to getting to know them better.

If you have any must-do activities you associate with camp, let me know.

Okay, how beautiful is that?

P. S. I am still teaching seminary.

I can't believe you're doing both callings. I guess they think you'll just veg all summer unless they keep you busy. Ha! Good thing you're who you are (and NOT me), cuz you'll do great!

that's not real camping. but it looks nice for a retreat :)

when i was in yw i boycotted girls camp once we moved back to the states because their idea of camping was so pampered. i did go to boy scout camp tho, and that was SO MUCH FUN!!! (16 mile hike, climbing and rappelling, lake swimming in icy water, canoeing, and best of all - no electricity, showers, flushing toilets, or cooking ranges - just mess kits and our own homemade #10-can stoves!).

if you change your mind and decide to go 'real camping', it might be a good idea to have a desert survival specialist come from the air force base come teach the girls how to eat different kinds of bugs and plants (and whatever else is indigenous to the area) and how to get drinking water out of a hole in the ground with pee, plastic, and a jar. they can also show you how to make a fire several different ways, in case you forget your matches and corded wood and/or men to build it for you.

for crafts it might be fun to make dream catchers. they're fast and easy, and there's a campfire song that goes with it.

regardless of how you "camp" i'm sure you'll have fun :) but everyone should have a meal of bugs at least once in their lifetime.

I love camp, and I really want to go but despite my whining, nobody calls me LOL--- I think it's a lot to teach seminary and do anything else, but I'm sure you can do it! Is it just the ward? I have not been to camp since Laredo, in 2004, that's a lifetime, I wish I was in Vegas to go with you.

Thanks everyone, I am looking forward to it.

Jen, you are HARD CORE. I am not hard core. My pretty little Mary is though...she loves dirt, adventure, and roughing it. She'd love a desert survival kind of camp. Me--aha, no.

Kareena, you would be great at girls camp! Maybe when you're not teaching seminary anymore you'll get to go.
