The Least of My Worries

The dishwasher is still not fixed. Can you believe it's been so long? Seriously, this has been going on for over 3 weeks. The old-guy repairman came twice and it seemed like he didn't know much about dishwashers. Bryce said the second time he started mashing buttons on the control panel and said, "I have a feeling it's going to work. Let's just run a cycle and see. Gotta go." Okay....bye. And thanks for not fixing anything? See you in another 2 weeks, or however long it takes you to get back out here.

But now something good. I volunteered in Cam's class yesterday. What cute kids--seriously adorable. There's a girl I have my eye on for Cam, fast-forward 20 years. I got to help make applesauce in Harrison's class last week and it was a blast. I'm so glad I can be part of these little boys' school days a few times a month.

Have you watched the show "The Sing-Off"? It is our new favorite. I don't know how the judges can possibly narrow it down to one winner--those groups are amazing. But we are rooting for Vocal Point from BYU--one of Bryce's best friends (Shaun Koldewyn) was one of the early members of the group in the mid-90s. He wrote and is the bass voice (the wolf) on The Three Little Pigs Rap. Love that song, love Shaun, miss him every time we hear old school Vocal Point. It's hard to believe he's been gone almost 10 years.

Now I've got to take Tyce to a practice. Mary has an appointment right after school, then the boys need to get picked up. Run run run, but it's good.

Oh yeah, the Sing Off! Love it! This entire post makes me think about Shaun...I remember when I flew to California for his wedding, I got food poisoning the night before my 5 am flight. Spent the whole flight swigging an entire bottle of Pepto-Bismol(before rules about liquids, don't ya know)...the stewardesses noticed and were super nice to me trying to keep me from hurling on the four hour flight. Got to Shaun's apartment, he'd already packed up to move in with Kellie and the kids, and he had nothing to drink out of...so we drank out of paper bowls...good times...ironically if Vocal Point wins they get a recording contract, Shaun and some of his friends still had an a capella group that was offered a contract right before he was married. He turned it down to keep teaching kindergarten. He told me that when he prayed about it, he felt impressed that he needed to focus on his new wife and kids, not finding fame and fortune with music. Two years later he was gone...time well spent where it should be. Eye, tear, grunt...miss ya' Shaun! Tyce will be singing bass with his high school a capella group tomorrow, I'll imagine you standing with him! Still think about you everyday...Bryce

Oh my word. I don't know what's more touching ... the blog post or Bryce's comment.

And on a grumpy note: GOOD GRIEF! your dishwasher story reminds me of my daughter, Brooke. They're in Arizona for a few weeks, rented an apartment. The washing machine broke and flooded the place ... this was the weekend of all the rain. So between rainstorms they put the matresses and couch cushions and everything outside to dry out. You can guess it - the storm hit again without warning and everything got saturated. So the washer repairman was scheduled to come the next morning. He called an hour after he should have been there to apologize, but he had become blind. This is TRUE. Brooke has the worst luck. So she didn't want to get mad about the washer because this poor guy was now blind! ... a few days pass by. Her 2-year-old calls me on the phone and we chat for a minute. I hear Brooke in the background - so she knows we're talking. As always, I get hung up on. 5 minutes later she calls me back and says, "I thought Gage was talking to you all this time. He had hung up and dialed the blind washer repairman and now he's trying to call me!" ... Another Brooke story (sorry, this is YOUR blog, not mine, but you've got me going now) she sold pest control for a summer. And despite being a young lady and not a rough-n-tough bug-guy, did ok. She was selling in California and didn't speak a word of Spanish. Still, she was making sales in the cultural neighborhood. She gets a call from the tech who is going to spray the yard - he's all upset because he drove out there and the guy she sold to was all upset saying that he didn't buy pest control! He bought hair products. Ok - just one more Brooke story. That summer she was having a horrible selling day, but finally knocked upon a door of a friendly really old man. He asked her to come in because he was too infirm to come to the door. Of course, she new better, but her warm heart talked her into going in. The guy decided to buy - he said something like, "I won't be around much longer, but my family will want this place to be free of pests" She really wanted to just give the service to him because he was so nice, but of course, it's not her company so she couldn't. Anyway, he signed the papers and they scheduled the spraying for a couple hours later that day since the techs were in the area. The techs showed up to collect payment and to spray and found the guy dead.

That's all. I need to do something besides write on your blog now. Have a great day Rebecca :)

First of all, I love that Bryce responded with those sweet memories of Shaun. Geez, make us all cry, why don't ya? BYU football and Shaun--those are the two things that get to him. When else does he ever comment?

And second of all--Denalee, your poor daughter Brooke! Wow, those are some crazy stories. I have nothing even close to those--no blind guys, no dead guys, no one thinking I'd really sold them hair gel. Good thing she has so much going for her in life because she might want to give up otherwise. :) That would make for some good blog material.

I mean, those stories would make for good blog material, not her giving up on life. Hm, wish I could edit my own comments. Haha.

Shaun Koldewyn aka Sexy. He was my first husband-in the FHE group sense. It was an honor to know him. Both yours and Bryce's comments are very touching and bring back some of the best memories of my life. Hope your dishwasher gets fixed soon.
